Metropolitan Center for Independent Living (MCIL)

About This Project

MCIL works to remove barriers and promote choices for individuals living with disabilities. A grant opportunity arose in which MCIL could propose the development of a new electronic application to digitize its core and central independent living plan. I wrote the grant to the Department of Human Services’ Disabilities Services Division and won it. I then project managed a vendor relationship with MissionBox, an organization that has created a community engagement platform that revolutionizes how services are delivered by NGOs. The product title I suggested is My Life Navigator™ and MCIL was able to trademark and own the name. The grant contract goals and objectives were successfully met and even expanded to have a WCAG 2.1 review of its accessibility standards for fully compliance.

Testimonials

Regarding the grant, project and the final report outcome, Executive Director Jesse Bethke Gomez had this to say:

“Kathleen was instrumental in the project's three-fold success. From winning the grant, to project managing the tool’s development, to writing the final report, her services exceeded, by far, my expectations!”
